2024 Ford Bronco: Off-road adventures have experienced a revival in recent years. It could be a rebound for those who have been confined during the pandemic, or it could be the result of a new stock of off-road-capable vehicles. The Ford Bronco is one of the most popular vehicles, and its off-road capabilities rival those of the legendary Jeep Wrangler.

For 2024, the Bronco lineup will remain relatively unchanged. The Bronco Raptor is now available with a new Code Orange package that adds orange accents and stylish orange graphics to the rear door, quarter panel, and window. Additionally, the Raptor is now offered in Shelter Green and Velocity Blue paint schemes. Elsewhere in the inventory, the previously optional 12-inch touchscreen is now standard, and the Everglades trim returns (manufacturing was halted during the middle of the 2023 model year).

The Bronco is already one of the finest off-road SUVs, but it’s not perfect, as detailed in the Expert Rating section below. Even when compared to such formidable competitors as the Jeep Wrangler, Land Rover Defender, and Toyota 4Runner, it’s difficult to find a superior vehicle for off-roading.

It’s one of Ford’s most iconic off-roaders, and it’s being reimagined for the 2021 model year after a 25-year absence. It is currently offered in two body styles (either two-door or four), with a host of engine options, roof, and interior choices. The addition of the swamp-centric Everglades model and the off-road-ready Raptor variant for the 2022 model year round out the Bronco lineup nicely, and it is now fully prepared to take on whatever its nemesis, the Jeep Wrangler, can throw at it.

As a result of all the changes for 2022, we don’t expect many changes for the 2024 Ford Bronco. Ford might bring out special editions, change paint choices, and move some optional equipment around. By and large, though, we really hope the Bronco will be the same as it was before. That’s not a bad thing, and while the Bronco isn’t perfect, it’s impressive and charming in the way you’d expect from a modern interpretation of a classic rugged off-roader.

2024 Ford Bronco Review

Mud is some of nature’s most effective medication, and driving through it in a Ford Bronco is highly recommended. The Bronco is Ford’s response to the Jeep Wrangler’s unrivaled dominance for decades. The Bronco, like the Jeep, is available with two- and four-door configurations, as well as an optional manual transmission and four-wheel drive. Even the most basic Bronco features a 300-hp turbocharged inline-four with a 10-speed automatic transmission or a seven-speed manual transmission as an option.

The untamed engine is a twin-turbo V-6 with 330 horsepower. The Bronco Raptor, which was evaluated separately, has 418 horsepower but is an entirely different beast. The interior of the Bronco contains a rugged control room that is simple to maintain. The Bronco is an enjoyable lifestyle vehicle that is also a capable rock-crawling machine.

Aside from Ford eliminating the Bronco’s primary trim, the 2024 Bronco remains largely unchanged. The Bronco Badlands trim now comes with a heavy-duty mudguard in addition to the standard 12.0-inch infotainment display.

Next-Gen Bronco 2024

Automakers usually tend to give their models no more than five years before they come out with new changes and updates, so the rumor that the Ford Bronco will get a refresh for the 2024 model is not too surprising.

Ford Trend recently provided information that unnamed sources claim a refresh for the 2024 Ford Bronco was originally scheduled for the 2025 Ford Bronco model but has now been moved to the 2024 model year instead.

There’s no word on what this refresh will look like, whether it’s just a minor change to the appearance or if there will be something more substantial inside. Since Ford hasn’t confirmed the refresh at all, we won’t know the details until later.

A refresh in a model doesn’t usually equate to a redesign, so it’s possible that the 2024 Bronco might share some of the same features as the current 2021 model, which is quite popular, or the upcoming 2022 Bronco. Some of the latest updates that Ford has given to its latest models also include those that will most likely be found in the highly anticipated Bronco Raptor, which is an off-road version of the regular Bronco.

These features and updates include a more capable front bumper and available roof rack as well as an optional manual transmission for Broncos equipped with the Sasquatch package. There are also rumors that the engine for the Bronco Raptor might be a turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 and might come with a Fox shock. We’re not sure if any of that will translate to the 2024 Bronco, but the possibility remains.

Recently, Ford CEO Jim Farley seemed to hint an electric Bronco is also in the works, but we have no more information on that for now.

2024 Bronco Earlier this month, Ford Trend reported that a Ford Bronco refresh is scheduled for the 2025 model year, creating a four-year gap between it and the all-new 2021 Ford Bronco. However, sources familiar with the model’s future are now telling us that Ford Trend is suggesting the 2024 Bronco at FoMoCo has decided to move the Ford Bronco refresh one year – to the 2024 Ford Bronco model year – although there is no immediate reason for the change.

Future Ford Bronco Latest News

Mid-cycle refreshes generally happen in the automotive world every 3-4 years, so this is not unusual. In the meantime, however, Ford has a number of exciting new Bronco models to look forward to. That includes the recently teased ultra-high-performance Ford Bronco Raptor, which will debut for the 2022 model year, as Ford Trend reported last month.

In addition, the 2022 Bronco will be available with the Sasquatch Package and a 7-speed manual, as Ford Trend confirmed today. A capable new front bumper, a roof rack for four-door Broncos equipped with the Sasquatch package, and a new model – possibly called Everglades – round out the additions for the 2022 model year, while the Wildtrak will ditch its standard MIC hardtop for a soft top.

2024 Ford Bronco Interior, Comfort, and Cargo

Similar to other off-road vehicles, entering and exiting the Bronco may require a significant step up or down, but there are numerous grab handles throughout the interior to assist. We would prefer the front grasp handles to be located on the windshield pillars rather than the dashboard, but these will suffice. Inside, the driver’s seat and steering wheel adjustment ranges ensure that all controls and instruments are within easy reach. We appreciate the physical controls’ size and placement, which make them simple to see and operate while wearing gloves.

The Bronco’s interior is spacious due to the ample headroom. Even in two-door models, this sensation persists in the rear seats. However, accessing the rear seats in a two-door Bronco can be difficult because the front seats do not slide forward far enough.

The Bronco provides the same open-air options as the Wrangler, including two or four doors, softtops or hardtops, and removable body elements. The Ford has a few more interior innovations than the Jeep. For instance, the Bronco’s dashboard features a rack that allows handsets and GoPros to be mounted there. It also has frameless, easily removable doors. However, their lengthy side glass can catch the weatherstripping and they let in additional wind noise. Nevertheless, the extended-wheelbase four-door models have room for all four doors.

As the exterior mirrors are attached to the base of the windshield, they remain functional even when the doors are removed. When the interior is exposed to the elements, rubberized flooring, and marine-grade vinyl upholstery are available to protect it. Those who desire a more upscale interior can elect for leather seating surfaces, but the interior’s extensive use of plastic makes higher trims appear inexpensive.

Even in the two-door Bronco, the rear seat is spacious enough to accommodate two adults comfortably. The four-door model alone has a third, middle seat in the rear and slightly more legroom, but the majority of its additional length applies to a cargo area that is more than 50 percent larger than the two-door model.

Infotainment and Connectivity

The Bronco’s interface features a 12.0-inch touchscreen that is powered by Ford’s latest in-dash Sync 4 software. The configuration supports over-the-air updates and can connect wirelessly to the cloud and the user’s smartphone. The infotainment system also supports a variety of modern infotainment features, such as Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and a Wi-Fi hotspot that requires a subscription. Additionally, the device can be upgraded with desirable features such as an integrated navigation system and a more powerful B&O stereo.

Storage

The Bronco’s larger exterior dimensions compared to those of the Wrangler translate to a roomier cabin with more cargo space. However, the four-door Bronco offers slightly less cargo space than the similarly sized Toyota 4Runner. Thanks to a strut, the Bronco’s rear swing gate opens to the passenger side and stays in position. On hardtop models, the rear glass folds up effortlessly, whereas a prop rod is required to keep the soft top open.

A sufficient number of cupholders and nooks and crannies for personal objects are included among the interior storage options. The door pockets’ netting is too shallow for most water flasks. Some models’ front seatbacks feature Molle-style attachment points for suspending equipment.

A trailer hitch with four- and seven-pin connectors is available as an option for the Bronco, allowing it to transport up to 3,500 pounds. A trailer brake controller is available as an accessory but is not included. Each and every Bronco can be towed with all four wheels on the earth.

Comfort

Although it is not a luxury vehicle, the Bronco is more pleasant on the road than its most direct competitor, the Jeep Wrangler. The Bronco’s seats provide more support and adjustability to reduce fatigue on lengthy interstate drives. Due to its truck-based construction, the ride is a touch firmer and more bouncy than in other SUVs, but not enough to deter you from driving it.

The available and effective dual-zone climate control allows you to modify the intensity of the auto setting, and the heated front seats heat up very quickly, which is great on a cold day when the doors are open. The removable hardtop allows a significant quantity of wind noise to enter the Bronco at virtually any speed, lowering its score in this category. During our off-road testing, there were also numerous rattling and vibrations.

Through good and bad or smiles and danger, this famous SUV has reached 2023MY, along with some cool special editions alongside the regular trims.

Naturally, after the Everglades or Heritage Editions, as well as the flagship Bronco Raptor (known as ‘Braptor’), the only way forward – soon – is to bring out a mid-life cycle refresh. One that probably comes with very subtle changes, as OEMs don’t want to mess with a winning recipe when their model is at the peak of its popularity.

However, that’s true in the real world. Across cyberspace, digital automotive artists have no such restrictions and usually let their imaginations run loose… or run rampant. Perhaps such is the case with Jim, the pixel master better known as jlord8 on social media, who knows how to conjure up our dream cars and recently CGI cooked up a potentially extreme ‘Braptor’ facelift.

Dubbed the Ford Bronco (Series) II Raptor, he envisioned an updated version using the 2023/2024 Ford Ranger Raptor that has yet to make it to US dealerships as the digital work base. However, unlike the OEM, 4-door-only Bronco Raptor, which uses the original Bronco as inspiration, his dream Braptor takes cues from the second generation, a model that shifted the paradigm from a custom chassis to the F-Series pickup truck architecture and thus entered the full-size SUV segment.

Well, this time around, the wishful-thinking Bronco II Raptor may not jump segments, but it seems poised to play the role of a high-performance three-door SUV with a close styling relationship to the Range Raptor pickup truck. Now, is that perhaps your cup of CGI tea, or not?

Anyway, after a series of extravagant ideas that ranged from borderline impossible (a revived Lambo Espada) to just a little away from being fully official (the 2023 Porsche Macan EV or the 2024 Ram EV), it is time for something different.

Something that might be eagerly adopted by the masses, if it were real. The 2024 Ford Bronco Sports EV. Yes, as the author says, this is not the Bronco you imagined. ” But it’s also very likely to be the next act for Detroit’s Blue Oval. Especially considering the success of its Mustang Mach-E, as well as the powertrain of sibling Bronco Sport.

At the moment, the latter still plays exclusively for ICE teams with some turbocharged 1.5-liter and 2.0-liter EcoBoost mills. But its Ford Escape SUV sibling from the same platform is already available with hybrid and PHEV options. And their unibody compact pickup truck companion, the Maverick 2022, is also electrified as a standard amenity.

With all that in mind, it’s not hard to imagine Ford will one day have the zero-emission Bronco Sport act as a retro-styled off-road counterpart to the city-dwelling Mustang Mach-E. As for the changes given to this unofficial creation… Well, let’s just say beauty is always in the eye of the beholder!

2024 Ford Bronco Hybrid

Ford Bronco Hybrid 2024 Looking further ahead, the Bronco will soon be available in other parts of the world, including the Middle East and possibly Europe, although it likely won’t be available as a right-hand drive model. Ford CEO Jim Farley also recently hinted that an all-electric Bronco might be in the works, which isn’t a huge surprise given the fact that the automaker is investing heavily in EVs and plans to eventually convert its entire North American lineup to electric-power Bronco Hybrid 2024.

Reports from Car and Driver indicate that Ford hopes to expand the Bronco line by creating more models under that name. The 2021 Bronco has comfortable handling both on-road and off-road, with solid engine performance. It’s not the best daily driver, but it’s a good off-road option.

There’s also a rather impressive Bronco sport. Ford has even opened standalone Bronco showrooms at around 100 dealerships, clearly investing in the future of the Ford Bronco name. The Bronco pickup will be a solid Jeep Gladiator competitor. It was scheduled for release in 2024 if there were no delays.

Now, the Bronco pickup has not been delayed. It turns out that it is not coming out at all. Automotive News announced that the project has been canceled.
According to reliable sources, Ford recently informed suppliers that the Bronco pickup had been killed off before it was even launched.

It turns out that the Bronco pickup was originally planned to be produced at Ford’s Wayne, Michigan plant. Not alone, but with two other Ford models: The Bronco SUV and the Ranger mid-size pickup truck.

 

Based on what we know, it looks like adding another pickup to Ford’s vehicle lineup would have been too much internal competition. The Bronco midsize pickup will be compared directly to the Ford Ranger, a solid pickup truck. Ford’s truck arsenal also includes the compact Maverick and the full-size F-150.

While the Bronco pickup will be a Jeep competitor, it will likely cannibalize sales from the previously established Ford Ranger. That’s not an optimal business plan, considering the costs that would go into the creation of a new truck.

2024 Ford Bronco Engine, Transmission, and Performance

Apologies, people. The Bronco does not feature an eight-cylinder engine. Instead, a 300-hp turbocharged 2.3-liter four-cylinder or a 330-hp twin-turbo 2.7-liter V-6 are standard. A 10-speed automatic transmission is compatible with both gasoline engines, while a seven-speed manual transmission is only compatible with the lesser engine. Neither engine has an enthusiastic accompaniment, however.

Each Bronco transmits power to all four wheels, and its independent front suspension is more advanced than the front axle of the Jeep. Other notable options include 35-inch mud-terrain tires, beadlock-capable rims, electronic locking front and rear differentials, and a disconnecting sway bar. After our initial driving impressions, the Bronco’s road manners impressed us.

The Ford not only has more precise steering than the Wrangler, but it also handles better overall. Naturally, with the largest tires and softest suspension, there is significant brake decline, and the body-on-frame construction is not a secret. Nevertheless, the Bronco is not a one-trick pony; it is capable of traversing extremely treacherous terrain.

Performance

Whether you select for the turbo four-cylinder or turbo V6, the Bronco’s 10-speed automatic transmission provides sufficient and refined power for daily driving, regardless of which engine you choose. The additional power from the V6 makes on-ramps and brief merges easier and more enjoyable, and the V6 Bronco reaches 60 mph from a standstill in 7.3 seconds, which is average given the large tires and four-door design.

Normal for off-road SUVs, forceful braking causes a significant amount of nosedive, but emergency stopping distances were significantly longer than desired. From 60 miles per hour, a panic stop required 146 feet; this distance is typical for heavy-duty pickup vehicles. Notably, our test Bronco was equipped with the Sasquatch off-road package and its aggressive tires, but other Broncos we’ve tested with less aggressive rubber only stopped 10 feet shorter — which is still longer than we’d like.

The steering is the true standout. At highway velocities, the Bronco’s steering wheel conveys confidence and stability to its driver due to its independent front suspension. While you shouldn’t expect excitement on winding roads, you’ll appreciate that the steering won’t tire you out on lengthy drives.

Towing and Payload Capacity

Both the two-door and four-door versions of the Ford Bronco are rated to tow 3,500 pounds, the same as the Jeep Wrangler.

2024 Ford Bronco Colors

The Blue Oval decided to not only outline the upcoming 2023 Heritage Edition paint lineup but also explain that the 2024 Ford Bronco Heritage Edition will add a new color to its debut, stating that “Peak Blue is planned for the 2024 model year,” according to a recent statement. Currently, the Ford Bronco Heritage Limited Edition is available exclusively in Robin’s Egg Blue, but it will also be available in Yellowstone Metallic in the near future. This is the first official information about the 2024 Ford Bronco to be revealed, and confirmation that the new trim will survive beyond 2023.

Interestingly, the 2023 Ford Bronco Sport Heritage Limited Edition will be offered in Peak Blue right out of the gate, instead of holding the color for the upcoming model year. It should also be noted that no Peak Blue photos have been released as of this writing.

2024 Ford Bronco MPG

Because the Bronco is a newer vehicle with a 10-speed automatic transmission, we anticipated improved fuel economy. Combined fuel economy for four-cylinder Broncos is estimated by the EPA to range from 17 to 20 mpg. Similarly, six-cylinder models range between 17 and 19 mpg combined. These numbers are typically lower than those of comparable Jeep Wrangler models.

The EPA estimated that our test vehicle, a four-door First Edition Bronco with a 2.7-liter V6, achieved 17 miles per gallon. We were able to match that estimation in mixed driving conditions, but aside from the Jeep’s V8-powered 392 horsepower, that estimate is lower than any other Wrangler available for purchase.

Fuel Economy and Real-World MPG

The four-cylinder Bronco with automatic transmission is the most fuel-efficient model, with city and highway ratings of 20 and 22 mpg, respectively. Upgrade to the V-6 model with the Sasquatch package, which includes aggressive, oversized tires, and the city and highway fuel economy drops to 17 mpg.

On our 75-mph fuel-economy route, we’ve tested automatic-equipped Broncos with both engines, with the four-cylinder achieving 22 mpg and the V-6 achieving 18 mpg. Visit the EPA website for more information about the Bronco’s fuel economy.

Seven primary specification levels are available for the four-wheel-drive Ford Bronco SUV: Base, Big Bend, Black Diamond, Outer Banks, Badlands, Wildtrak, and Everglades. 2024 Ford Bronco Price

The 2024 Ford Bronco ranges in price from $41,025 to over $71,000. Mid-range variants such as Black Diamond and Outer Banks offer more features than the Big Bend model. We would recommend a Black Diamond with four doors.

Standard features include Ford’s G.O.A.T. drive modes, 32-inch tires, a powder-coated steel bumper, additional impact plates, and access to a plethora of additional factory options for less than $50,000.

The base model of the 2024 Ford Bronco has been discontinued, and it now begins at over $41,000. Ford has decided to eliminate the $36,785 base model from the Bronco inventory for 2024, replacing it with the $41,025 Big Bend model.

Ford no longer sells new Broncos for less than $40,000 dollars. As the rugged off-road SUV enters its fourth year on the market, Ford has modified the inventory, eliminating the $36,785 base model and replacing it with the $41,025 Big Bend as the Bronco’s entry-level vehicle. Additionally, there are minor price increases and a few new items of equipment.

The only Bronco variant that does not experience a price increase is the Big Bend. The Black Diamond model now costs $44,525, an increase of $1130, while the 2024 Bronco Outer Banks begins at $49,835 — an increase of $1590. The Badlands, which enhances the Black Diamond’s off-road technology, is now priced at $51,290, and the Wildtrak, which comes standard with a twin-turbo 2.7-liter V-6, starts at $61,920, an increase of $1250 for each model.

The trail-ready Everglades, equipped with a factory-installed WARN winch, snorkel, and 35-inch mud-terrain tires, is now priced at $57,415, $875 more than the 2023 model. The price of the top-of-the-line Bronco Raptor with its 418-hp twin-turbo V-6 is $3255 more than it was last year, starting at $91,730. Heritage Edition and Heritage Limited Edition, with a retro theme, are also marginally more expensive, at $49,750 and $71,560, respectively.

Aside from the price tags, the Bronco lineup will undergo a few minor modifications in 2024. Ford has discontinued the standard 8.0-inch infotainment screen, and all Broncos are now equipped with a standard 12.0-inch screen. The Badlands model now comes standard with a heavy-duty bumper, while the Bronco Raptor features a new Code Orange package with bright accents, body-colored fenders, and two new paint colors.

Yesterday, order books for the 2024 Bronco went live. Ford no longer has a genuine competitor for the least expensive Jeep Wrangler trim, the $33,690 Sport, due to changes to its lineup. The entry-level Big Bend now competes with the $41,190 Willys model of the Wrangler.

2024 Ford Bronco Price

The 2021 Bronco currently has a price range from $29,995 to $58,905 depending on the trim. Considering the First Edition trims that were at the top of sales sold out immediately, Ford could allegedly capitalize on the interest and raise the price slightly for the 2022 model. Having said that, we don’t have a clear picture of what the price of the 2024 model will be.

It’s too early to say for sure what other vehicles might be serious competition for the 2024 Bronco, as some automakers have yet to announce any models for that year, however, some of the main competitors for the Ford Bronco currently include the Jeep Wrangler and Toyota 4Runner.

2024 Ford Bronco Release Date

Since the 2022 Ford Bronco has not yet been released or even a firm release date announced, we don’t know when the 2024 model will be available. However, it is safe to say that it will likely arrive sometime in 2023.

Verdict

The Ford Bronco is a highly proficient off-road vehicle with minimal impact on on-road maneuverability. Negative aspects include fuel economy, wind noise, stopping distances, and interior materials that appear inexpensive. The Bronco is enjoyable to drive and simple to live in all other respects. For the majority of buyers, the Bronco is the best value among its competitors due to its personality and design, helpful drive modes, and broad availability of its off-road package.
