2023 Ford Edge after running for a decade, the popular Edge is increasingly being knocked off the list for reasons you might find hard to believe.
The electric vehicle segment is becoming a high-demand automotive sector now, with the debut of several EVs over the past few years, and more to come in the near future.
Ford has major electrification plans for the future. So far, the brand has released great EVs, such as the Mustang Mach-E and F-150 Lightning. Like most brands, Ford gave up conventional gas-powered vehicles and took a more EV-centric route.
And from a “save the planet” point of view, this is a great transition to make. Many will remember that the brand had discontinued the like-it-or-hate-it Ford Flex, which was manufactured at the Oakville plant, along with the Lincoln MKT.
In 2020, Blue Oval announced it would cease production of the Ford Edge at the Oakville Assembly Complex in Canada, after signing an agreement to introduce EVs starting in 2025. New electrification plans led to the cancellation of Edge for the 2023 model year.
Since the Ford Edge arrived on the scene, it pretty much stole the show. In fact, the 2022 Ford Edge is still selling well. We expect the third-generation Ford Edge lineup to arrive in 2023, but it will never be revealed.
However, customers who are still interested in the 2023 Edge can order it at select dealerships, with prices starting at $37,945. Know that you will not get a new generation of models.

2023 Ford Edge Review
Why did Ford ignore its flagship crossover? According to the Ford Trend, the brand confirms that 2023 is truly the end of the Ford Edge production era in North America.
While this is detrimental to loyal fans of the crossover, Ford has a very good reason to do so. You see, the Ford Edge was launched from the Oakville Assembly Complex in Canada, along with the SUV’s luxurious sibling, the Lincoln Nautilus.
These two vehicles have only been produced at the factory since its inception a few years ago.
About two years ago, Ford made plans with the Canadian union Unifor to introduce up to five new EVs starting in 2025. The signed agreement states that EVs will be available at the same Oakville plant.
The cancellation of the SUV was most likely triggered by labor negotiations. It would be much more expensive to produce the Edge, Lincoln Nautilus, and multiple EVs in the same factory. It would also be contrary to his “electrification plan.”
So, the Ford Edge won’t be there for the 2023 model year because the Oakville plant where it is produced will be converted into an EV-only plant. Unfortunately, this will also be the end of the Lincoln Nautilus line.
Ford will begin retooling the plant in 2024, in preparation for the upcoming production of EVs. The new electric vehicles will start rolling out in 2025 and will be sold for the same model year. But that doesn’t mean Edge is fully operational.
The Ford Changan Assembly Plant in Chongqing, China, will continue to produce the Ford Edge China in its new 7-seater form. This will be the only manufacturer of compact crossovers. So, this is not the end of the Ford Edge line, but rather the end of its line in North America.
2023 Ford Edge EV
Almost every automaker has started electrifying their cars or plans to do so in the next few years. And like everything, Ford knew that the transition from conventional, gas-powered vehicles would not happen instantly.
The transition will be slower and more systematic. That’s why Ford will spend the whole of 2024 preparing for the Oakville Assembly Complex in Canada.
So far, Ford has not announced details of the upcoming EV. However, of the five models, we think two or three of them will be compact crossovers.
Especially since this is the hottest segment at the moment, and it will last for years to come. The upcoming electric SUV is likely to be the successor to the trimmed Ford Edge. It may also be shaped, luxurious, and more.
And we also suspect Ford will produce an EV spinoff of the Bronco. This will pay homage to Ford’s best off-road crossover. A larger version of the EV navigator is also enough, but it’s hard to tell at this point.
By the time the successor to the Ford Edge will be unveiled from the production line, Ford’s latest EVs, the F-150 Lightning, and the Mach-E will be a few years old. The success of the upcoming EV will depend on the momentum built by this EV. S
o, Ford will likely spend a lot of time dealing with EV-related issues. These are issues such as technology, mileage, and potential battery issues. In time, customers will be eager to join Ford’s EV transition.
