2022 GMC Jimmy the team at Flat Out Autos recently revealed renderings of their next build: a two-door GMC SUV with a removable roof.
Of course, those who like the Chevrolet K5 Blazer or GMC Jimmy will love this one. And to get more info, MC&T reached out to Flat Out Autos to get more information about the exciting new project.

Build’s GMC 2-Door Autos Flat Out: Production, Price, and More
The new build will be based on the GMC Sierra and Chevrolet Silverado platforms, and according to Rob Hester of Flat Out Autos, they will also be able to offer it in HD with a Duramax engine. So in essence, the two-door vehicle is a truck.
The new build is expected to be revealed in mid-June, and there appears to be a higher demand for modern 2-door conversions than they anticipated. As a result, 2022 will likely only be produced about 8-10 units, “but if demand is still there, we will continue to increase production for 2023.
The price for the 2-door conversion will include a new donor Sierra or Silverado 2022 and will reach around $120,000 USD.
Flat Out Autos is very familiar with vehicle builds like this. However, the new GM vehicle features the Global B electrical architecture, creating problems for projects like this as the car’s ECU/TCU is now encrypted.
The company does not modify vehicle software; instead, they “have adapted the vehicle to include all existing sensors and safety items.” In addition, for those who want it, Flat Out Autos will offer lifts, improved shocks, wheel and tire packages, and an optional supercharger for the 5.3-liter V8 engine.
While we only have renderings of what’s possible right now, GMC Jimmy reborn from Flat Out Autos plans to debut at the 2022 SEMA Show.
Those who don’t live in the United States can get excited that Flat Out Autos exported their conversions, having sold four of their four-door K5 Tahoe conversions to the Royal Family in Abu Dhabi. According to Hester, there was also a lot of interest from the UAE before Covid.
Finally, we asked what is the current waiting time for one of these vehicles. “The first one will take about 5 months and will serve as our prototype for fixtures and jigs to maintain consistency, once we are done with the prototype, we aim to be able to complete the complete build in about 60 days.”

The Next Generation Jimmy SUV
Jimmy’s revived GMC could be GM’s answer to the hugely popular Jeep Wrangler and the upcoming Ford Bronco.
This off-road-capable body-on-frame SUV is likely to call suburban streets home — not that it will mean much to SUV-hungry buyers, who will ignore compromises on the road to enjoy a solid off-road aura.
If that happens, the new model will likely use the basics of GM’s mid-size truck, which also supports Chevy Colorado and GMC Canyon pickups.
GMC probably won’t be too creative with its powertrain. It will use the same 3.6-liter V-6 as on the pickup and — hopefully — turbo-diesel.
Truck-based SUVs are rapidly evolving past a logical expiration date. The new Wrangler enjoyed strong sales despite the high Jeep prices, and even the old-fashioned Toyota 4Runner came out of many dealerships.
The trail-happy model will also help legitimize GMC’s new off-road signage, the AT4, which it says will be applied to all its models in the near future.
Even if Jimmy himself doesn’t go well, this model could be a trim level for a Canyon pickup, reflecting the ZR2 trim of his sibling Chevrolet Colorado.
Another rumble suggests that GMC is scrapping plans for a body-on-frame SUV that supports car-based subcompact crossovers. But given that such a model would overlap with the popular Buick Encore (and now the Encore GX ), which shares a showroom with the GMC range, we don’t think it’s possible.
GMC Jimmy 2022
Well, you know what they’re saying – if OEMs can’t deliver it, leave it to the virtual and aftermarket to fix things so quickly that the fan can get blown away nicely in an instant.
This situation really applies to General Motors and its harsh refusal to give Chevy K5 Blazer and GMC Jimmy fans a proper resurgence to compete with the likes of Jeep’s Wrangler, Ford’s Bronco, and even Volkswagen’s upcoming Scout reinvention. But don’t worry, there’s a cool solution, at least as far as the GMC brothers are concerned.
Not long after 2022 began, we heard that Oscar Vargas, the virtual artist better known as wb.artist20 on social media, and Flat Out Autos – a Jonesboro,
Arkansas-based companies – are joining forces with their CGI-to-reality power to transform an unsuspecting range of GMC Sierra 1500s into a precise and modern GMC Jimmy 2022 two-door convertible SUV.
They have provided additional updates over the past few months to ensure everyone understands this is not just a steam device and that the GMC pickup truck is indeed being converted into a fashionable off-road SUV with a removable top.
Now, finally, the first of only 20 examples are over, and eagerly awaits the SEMA Show 2022 event and the legendary Battle of the Builders competition.
But what about the highlights? Yes, that includes the GMC Sierra Single Cab long-bed donor truck, a shortened chassis, power-folding rear seats, an internal dedicated roof, as well as many aftermarket partners – from FOX and BDS Suspension to Nitto Tire and CORSA Performance, plus many others.
Unfortunately, there are no pricing details available, but we know that each unit will be tailored to the exact customer’s specifications.
This SEMA 2022 show is definitely a cool show – and we miss it terribly. Just look at the unfortunate 2022 Paris Motor Show and almost no decent premieres (aside from that cool Jeep Avenger 4×4 Concept surprise)!
2022 GMC Jimmy Price
New GMC off-roaders could emerge in the next few years, likely starting around $30,000.
